Resources
Yellow Creek and its tributaries provide many opportunities to fish for stream-bred brown and rainbow trout. Some stocking of mostly rainbows does occur. Yellow Creek has a fly project which carries “Fly Fishing only, Catch and Release” regulations year round. The area above the project is closed to kill after Labor Day to protect spawning fish. The rest of the stream is an all-tackle area where harvest is permitted. Upper Yellow Creek above Loysburg is mostly private. Permission needs to be secured from landowners in order to fish. Visit our area, learn the streams, then choose which flies, baits, and lures best suit your style of fishing.
Hatches:
- April-June: Blue Quills, BWOs, Big Sulfurs. Pale Evening Duns, Green Drakes and Light Cahills
- July-September: Trico, Slate Drake, and terrestials
The best hatches in 2018 were BWOs, Sulfurs, and Tan Caddis. There was so much rain in 2018 that itseemed to put off some hatches, or left the creek unfishable. Most of the usual hatches were present, but in reduced numbers due to the weather.

- Treat other fishermen with respect!
- You can fish above and below the wires.
- There is one closed section from the upper wire of the project to just above the White House Pool; from there on up is open.
- You can fish downstream from cable to Beavers’ sign.
