Projects
We have completed or aided in work projects on Potter Creek, Beaver Creek, and Yellow Creek over the years. Projects have included bank stabilization, improving in-stream trout habitat, mud sills, and narrowing of streams degraded by cattle or water eroding banks. We have encouraged in-stream fencing where needed. We hold an annual cleanup on Yellow Creek.
Our watershed has two major limestone tributaries, Potter Creek and Three Springs Creek. Beaver Creek is more of a freestone tributary. Yellow Creek is mostly limestone in nature.
In 2017, in conjunction with the Mountain Laurel Chapter of Trout Unlimited, we installed a second mud seal on Potter Creek. The work was done just above the previous year’s work. We also completed three mud seals in the area above the Upper Ledge Rock Pool. Many volunteers came to help with these projects. 2018 saw the installation of two mud seals on the shallow right hand section of the creek below the Red Bank hole deepening this section of flat water. 2019 will see the installation of more mud seals on the right side of the stream below those installed in 2018. We will also repair one log from the 2017 project. Work days for 2019 are July 19-20. Rain dates will be on August 16-17. Why not come and get involved?
